A consequence of religion is not knowing the one true living God as Father. This is because religion causes us to focus on rules, rites, and rituals rather than who God is and who He is meant to be to us. In turn, we may blame religion for being boring, unfulfilling, uninspiring. Consequently, we may walk away from religion or outright reject it.
I did. I walked away from and rejected religion. More so, I thought religion was all there was when it came to God. I was therefore quite content to walk away from and reject it. I didn’t know there was more to it. I didn’t know He and I were meant to have a relationship. No one told me. How could they? They didn’t know either. No one told them.
To make Himself known, God will often send people, like He did with the Apostle Paul in the verses below. Note, Paul wasn’t in a church, temple, or synagogue here. “Aeropagus” was a hill, a public meeting place for the intellectuals and philosophers of the time.
God does the same today. He sends people into public places to reveal Himself. Gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, workplaces, parks, streets, nature, social media, blog posts, etc. God isn’t, wasn’t, and never will be limited to church or the four walls of a religious building.
So, like Paul who was called to make the unknown God known, I feel compelled to do the same. I want to share what no one shared with me.
There’s more to it.
We were made for way more than religion.
We were made for relationship with the Father.
We were made to know the one true living God with the help of the Holy Spirit who we receive when we repent and are born again in Jesus.
We were made to make the unknown God known in the public places to which we are called.
❤️
Where is the unknown God trying to make Himself known to you today?
Where has He tried making Himself known to you in the past?
❤️
“Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:
TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.
Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you:”
Acts 17:22-23 NKJV
