Faith Full Stop

We speak faith here. Period.

Don’t Forget How Far You’ve Come

Doing something different today than I expected. The Lord dropped this in my spirit the other day, and He just won’t let me drop it. (I even had to get out the graph paper!) I pray it blesses, encourages, and strengthens you!

We know our lives have a defined (divine!) beginning and defined (divine!) ending. God has numbered and planned each of our days (Psalm 139:16). I saw it like the picture below – life on a continuum, each dot representing a day or a point in time on the continuum, for example.

We also know in life we go through some very hard things. It can feel like those days consume us – our time, our energy, our focus. It’s easy to lose our perspective when we’re in the thick of it. We can easily hyperfocus on the struggle, the trial, the situation. When it goes on for a time, we can then fall into the trap of thinking, “This is just how it is.” “This is how it’s always going to be.” “Things are never going to change.” It looks a little something like this:

“You are here.” Period. End of story. Here is all there is. Stuck. Trapped. No way out.

It’s such a trap of the enemy, and it’s full of lies! The enemy wants us to be victims – tired, complaining, discouraged, hopeless, defeated. He wants us to wander aimlessly in the desert between Egypt and the Promised Land as long as possible. He wants us so consumed with the circumstance or situation that our focus is misplaced. He wants us to forget that our faith is in the God who makes the impossible possible (Luke 18:27), and that He who promised the impossible is faithful (Hebrews 10:23). He wants us to forget everything that God has already done for us.

But Psalm 77:11-12 says this:

11 But then I recall all you have done, O Lord;
    I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.
12 They are constantly in my thoughts.
    I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.

This verse basically tells us that we must remember all that God has done for us along the way; along the continuum. It is the faith He has built in us in the past that sustains us in the present and empowers us remain in faith for the promise in our future.

So, when the enemy wants you to believe “You are here” like in the picture above, remember it actually looks like this:

He doesn’t bring us only so far to leave us there. There is no glory for Him in doing that. Trust that He is still working all things out for your good (Romans 8:28) and His glory – past, present, and future. God is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19). He delivers on His promises!
